Product Description
Most people playing online poker think they are winning players when they're actually losing month after month. This book helps you find out how to: select the best poker sites for your standard; analyze your opponents and their games; adapt your game to combat the styles of play you meet; and, counter the costly dangers of 'tilt' and temperament.

5 out of 5 stars Hit the spot for me   July 10, 2010
R. P. Sedgwick (UK)
I bought this book after only having played poker for a few days with pretend money on Facebook. It was perfect for the level of experience and knowledge I had, being a "poker virgin" (his term).

For the more experienced player it might be a bit basic but there is so much advice in there I need to read it multiple times to try and absorb the important bits for me.

What there isn't in the book is tables of the different probabilities for different pairs pre-flush and or any more explicit mathematical material that is probably the next step. The same author has written another book which I'm hoping will help me in this area. You might well see a review of that book a few days after this one if you have a look for it on Amazon.

5 out of 5 stars Great if your just starting out   June 25, 2010
P. Nixon (Swindon, England)
If your new to poker, after finishing this book you can take everything you learnt from it, apply it a real life game and walk away a winner. This won't take you past low-limit games, but everyone has to start somewhere and I highly recommend you start here.

3 out of 5 stars Not bad   June 18, 2010
Mr. R. P. Bushell
An OK book with some OK tips, do not buy this book if you intend on playing for any kind of decent money the quality of content is basic.

3 out of 5 stars Not bad   April 26, 2010
Stuart Hamilton (Yorkshire)
The book is cheap and it covers cash, sng and MTTs. The advice is fairly basic but solid, it explains a basic tight and aggressive style in cash games. However It lacks detail and doesnt realy explain how to get a read on your opponents or how to play against specific opponents. The tournament advice is basic and recomends the standard tight early and then loosen up to steal the blinds. If you are a beginner the advice will be fine to start with but you will eventually have to read more advanced stuff. The book doesnt talk about multi tabling and using tracking software which you will eventually have to do if you are serious about the game.

3 out of 5 stars Good advice, but don't expect to make a fortune   April 21, 2010

Just started playing poker on line with this book to guide me, it's gave me some useful tips on how to be an aggressive player, how to choose a table, how much to bet and so on. However its falls down a bit when he tells you to keep notes on the players so you can prejudge their actions- how they play, etc.

Yeah you can do this but it means sitting and watching the table for ages before you join the game (yawn). Then whilst your playing, new players turn up (inevitably) and change the dynamics of the game. He says 'build up your notes on players and keep them handy for when you play them next time'. My GOD there's thousands of players online at any one time so how long n how many tables do you need to play before you've got enough knowledge/notes to know them and to beat em?

I ain't won a penny since I started using his system, this is due to bad beats, I.E you raise high on high ranking doubles, but then you get stung by being called and the other guy has a straight or two low doubles, when it goes down to the river card, argh!!, he writes that you don't want to go to the flop if you can help it because this lessens the odds of winning, bet high so people fold. This is good aggressive play but if your playing a low stakes game (which as a novice you will be unless you're super rich/stupid) then you'll only win a small pot. Also this fails when another guy calls you cos they've gotta half decent hand too, if you've kept notes on this guy then you can guess whether he's bluffing, but he may not be and it's still a gamble to go to the flop with your high pair.

I suppose if you're very brave novice with balls o steel (and a big wad of cash) his system could work well in medium/high stake games where the pot before the flop is decent, maybe one day I'll reach that stage!

Poker is great fun but it ain't for the faint hearted.
