Customer Reviews:
4 out of 5 stars Interesting analysis of Hold'em and Omaha   November 4, 2008
K. M. MacLean (UK)
This book is a collection of previously-published articles, which, according to the introduction, have been rewritten to take into account changes in the game. From what I can see the rewriting has been minimal, so if you're familiar with the originals, i.e. Slotboom's other books and magazine articles, then you can safely skip this. Otherwise, this book is a good buy. It covers Limit and No-Limit Hold'em and, of course, Pot-Limit Omaha. NB: Slotboom's focus is purely on cash games. If you're purely interested in NLHE then I'd suggest Harrington on Cash Games would be a better buy. If you're diligent, however, this is still worth a read since there are a number of NLHE players who started out in limit and still have a limit-orientated mindset (this is particularly true of U.S.-based players), so I think this book would help you to understand your opponents' play. If you're interested in learning Omaha, I'd suggest that buying Omaha Poker by Bob Ciaffone together with this book, would get you hitting the ground running. Once you've had some actually playing experience, move on to Pot-Limit Omaha by Jeff Hwang. There are a lot of excellent Limit Hold'Em books out there. Personally I think the best is Middle-Limit Hold'Em, again by Bob Ciaffone and I think Slotboom's Limit Hold'Em articles make a good companion for it.
